CD-ROM DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The
following is an outline of the stages involved in the development
of a CD-ROM. Although steps are presented as being separate, overlap
can and should occur to ensure a successful project. Lead-times
for CD-ROM development can be as low as 2 weeks.
PHASE
1 - PROJECT START
Determine business goals and decide how CD-ROM can effectively achieve
these. Identify scope of project. Determine budget. Estimate timeframe.
Clarify objectives. Produce project proposal based on goals and
objectives.
PHASE
2 - ASSET COLLECTION AND CREATION
Identify assets for use in project e.g. text, database, photographs,
graphics, audio, video. Determine which of these already exist,
which are to be collected/created by the client, and those which
Create Interactive will produce.
PHASE
3 - INITIAL DESIGN AND PROTOTYPE
Produce
sample screenshots. A prototype will demonstrate usability, functionality
etc. Refine screenshots and prototype based on client suggestions.
PHASE
4 - BUILD
Collection of assets from client. Creation of assets by Create Interactive
e.g. photography. Authoring of CD-ROM. Packaging design.
PHASE
5 - TESTING
Testing with target audience if applicable. Technical testing. Refinement
based on client feedback and testing.
PHASE
6 - PRODUCTION & DELIVERY
Master CD-ROM sent for production. Print elements produced. Delivery
of CD-ROM to client premises.
