ST CHRISTOPHER'S SERVICES LTD
The CD-ROM uses audio, photography, artwork, and text to showcase
the services and clients of each of 25 units in St Christopher's
Services Ltd.
Target Audience
The CD-ROM is aimed primarily at parents of service users, although
it also serves as a PR tool at conferences, school talks etc.
Usability
We decided at the project outset that the CD-ROM should be extremely
user friendly taking into account an audience of differing abilities.
User friendliness was achieved in a number of ways:
- consistent layouts
- uncluttered screens
- large buttons
- use of audio on button rollover
- use of audio voiceover
- large text fonts
Content
Individual units spent time collecting & taking photos for inclusion
on the CD-ROM. Additional content such as artwork was scanned and
incorporated into the presentation.
To
engage service users in the development of the project, we decided
to include audio recordings of service users discussing a typical
day at their unit. These recordings were made onsite.
Each
unit contains the following sections:
1.
About Us
General information on the unit such as services, activities, recreation,
outings etc.
2.
My Story
We decided that it was very important to give the service users
a significant contribution to the project. One of the primary ways
we did this was by including a section for each unit where a service
user could describe the unit - what the unit meant to them… a day
in the life type section. Digital cameras and recording equipment
was brought onsite for this purpose.
3.
Photo Gallery
Users can browse photos & artwork for each unit.
The
presentation also includes a dedicated section outlining the history
of St Christophers. This sections uses old photographs, newspaper
cuttings, letters, and audio to present this story in an informative
and entertaining manner.
