DOMAIN
NAME REGISTRATION
We provide a domain registration service and advise on a suitable
domain name (or names) to attract the appropriate clients.
Registration
of a .com domain is a relatively straight-forward process. However
the The Irish
Domain Registry has specific requirements for those wishing
to register a .ie domain. The more popular categories are listed
here:
Sole
Trader Applying For A Domain Name In The Personal Trading Name Category
Sole Traders, such as Authors, Designers, Entertainers, Artists,
Photographers, journalists etc, trading in Ireland under their Personal
Names are eligible to apply for a domain name in this category.
For clarification purposes this new domain name category is only
available to sole traders trading under their own personal trading
name.
The
proposed domain name must consist of the full name of the sole trader
in the format of the full first name followed by the full surname.
eg: Joseph Bloggs may apply for "josephbloggs.ie".
Required
Documentation:
- A signed letter on headed paper from an Irish bank manager,
firm of chartered accountant(s), registered auditor(s), tax
consultant(s), where the tax advisor identification number is

Company Registering A Domain In The Corporate Name Category
A company that has a real and substantive connection with Ireland
can register a domain name to reflect their corporate name. A
company can register multiple different domain names in this category,
provided that each one reflects the company's corporate name (optionally
translated from English to Irish, or vice versa). An abbreviation
of the corporate name may be used instead of the full corporate
name. Only a company can have a corporate name and therefore only
a company can register a domain name in this category.
Required documentation:
- If the company has been registered for longer than 2 months,
the company registration number must be included in the domain
name application form. If the company has been registered
within the last 2 months, the applicant must supply a copy
of the company's certificate of incorporation.
- If the company is incorporated outside of Ireland a copy
of the company's certificate of incorporation and a copy of
the certificate of registration of a "place of business" issued
pursuant to part XI of the Companies Act 1963 or the Certificate
of Registration of a "branch" issued pursuant to the European
Communities (Branch Disclosures) Regulations, 1993 (as appropriate)
must be supplied.
- A company that demonstrates substantial trade or commercial
activity within Ireland shall be deemed to have a real and
substantive connection with Ireland.
xamples of acceptable documentation would be copies of invoices
showing trade to or from Ireland, high quality brochures, A
signed letter on headed paper from an Irish bank manager, firm
of chartered accountant(s), registered auditor(s), tax consultant(s),
where the tax advisor identification number is displayed on
the letterhead, or solicitor(s) confirming that the applicant
(the company) is trading with Ireland
Company Registering A Domain In The Registered Business
Name (Rbn) Category
A company which has a real and substantive connection with Ireland
and which has a registered business name can register a domain
name in this category. A company can register one domain name
for each of its registered business names.
The applicant will always be the company that owns the RBN.
Required Documentation:
- If the company is more than 2 months old, the company
registration number must be included in the domain name
application form. If the company has been registered within
the last 2 months, the applicant must supply a copy of the
company's certificate of incorporation.
- If the registered business name is more than 2 months
old, the RBN number must be included in the domain name
application form. If the RBN has been registered within
the last 2 months, the applicant must supply a copy of the
RBN certificate. If the RBN has just been applied for, a
CRO receipt of payment showing the RBN applied for may be
acceptable, along with a copy of the application form. (The
Companies Office stamp applied to an application form counts
as proof of payment.)
- The IEDR is aware that applicants within the 6 counties
do not have to register business names and in such instances
the Registry may accept a signed letter on headed paper
from an bank manager, firm of chartered accountant(s), registered
auditor(s), tax consultant(s), where the tax advisor identification
number is displayed on the letterhead, or solicitor(s) confirming
that the company is currently trading, or has serious intention
and commitment to trade shortly, under the business name
that is specified. The letter must state the name of the
company and that they are trading, or intend to trade, under
the business name in question.
Unincorporated Association Registering A Domain In The
Unincorporated Association Name Category
An unincorporated association that is not legally obliged
to have a registered business name (club or society) is entitled
to register a domain name in this category.
Required Documentation:
- A signed letter on headed paper from a bank manager,
firm of chartered accountant(s), registered auditor(s),
tax consultant(s), where the tax advisor identification
number is displayed on the letterhead, or solicitor(s)
confirming the association's name and legal status as
