DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The web development process can be broken into the following phases:
PHASE
1 - PROJECT START
- Initial meeting to discuss scope of project, identify goals
etc.
- Identify business requirements.
- Identify customer requirements.
- Determine how the website can effectively achieve requirements.
- Establish budget.
- Estimate timeframe.
- Determine technical issues e.g. will the site incorporate a
database?
- Produce a proposal which addresses issues such as site structure,
content, & cost.
PHASE 2 - ASSET COLLECTION AND CREATION
- Domain name registration.
- Site hosting arranged.
- Assets:
- Identify assets for use in project e.g. photographs, graphics,
text.
- Determine which assets already exist.
- Identify assets to be collect or created by the client.
- Identify assets to be produced by Create Interactive eg.
photographs.
PHASE 3 - INITIAL DESIGN AND PROTOTYPE
- Produce sample screenshots.
- Develop prototype if appropriate. This will demonstrate usability,
functionality etc.
- Refinement of design based on client feedback.
- Preparation for asset creation & collection.
PHASE 4 - BUILD
- Collection of assets (photos, content etc) from client.
- Creation of assets by Create Interactive e.g. photography.
- Coding of website.
PHASE 5 - TESTING
- Uploading of website to restricted area for testing and client
feedback.
- Technical testing.
- Refinement of website based on testing and client feedback.
- Final sign-off on site.
PHASE 6 - SITE LAUNCH
- Site available to public.
- Registration of site with appropriate search engines.
- Arrange links from other sites.
PHASE 7 - MONITORING & MAINTENANCE
Clients should allocate a proportion of their web development
budget to monitoring and maintenance of their website. This is an
ongoing process which is affected by changes in business and customer
requirements.
The phase includes analysis of web log files which can identify
valuable customer behavioural information.
